To The Department of Music,
I am writing in response to the position of Lecturer for your film-scoring course in the Spring quarter 2020. I respectfully present myself as a candidate.
I graduated from New York University with a Master's degree in Music Composition with an emphasis in Film Scoring for Motion Pictures, Television and Multimedia studying mainly with Justin Dello-Joio of the Juilliard School. I am the recipient of three (two consecutive) Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition for a Drama Series with a total of seven Emmy nominations in various categories. With three ASCAP Film & Television Music Awards in the Special Recognition Category, I have served as a composer and conductor for Toons, Tunes, and Trikfilms - a decade-long collaboration with the Tisch School of the Arts Oscar Award-Winning Animation Director John Canemaker displaying delightful performances of Silent Films with live ensembles for the Film Society of Lincoln Center. I have composed scores for several documentaries on MSNBC's Headliners and Legends with Matt Lauer, for national network commercials and for international campaigns on behalf of the American Red Cross, The United States Army and others.
As an adjunct professor of music over the years, I have gained valuable experience leading undergraduate discussion sections for both music majors and non-majors. In addition to classroom instruction on courses such as Composition and Arranging, Music Appreciation, Music Technology, Music in Film, The Sound of Cinema, Musicology , Music Theory and Musicianship Levels 1-6, Media, Power & Society, Foley in the Cinematic Arts Department, I have also advised students on appropriate research topics in addition to editing and evaluating their work. I strive to cultivate an interactive classroom environment, encouraging students to express themselves freely, engaging in meaningful ways.
I welcome the opportunity to discuss teaching, future research and expanding future film composing surveys with you. I have enclosed my curriculum vitae and all of the materials that you requested here today on this e-portfolio. I look forward to discussing further with you how my qualifications and experience would compliment the Department of Music at Stanford University.
Sincerely,
John Christopher Wineglass
